The BA900 from Oregon Scientific looks like a giant chunk of crystal and is quite different to any weather station we’ve ever seen. Yes, it is a proper weather station, but not as we know it. The 3D icons display the forecast weather, which is augmented with projecting lights in different colours, red for sunny, blue for cloudy and green for rain. This clever arrangement means you can “read” the weather from across the room. The Crystal Weather Station is almost more like modern art than a scientific instrument – it’s a combination of both. The BA90o0 is mains powered and does not take batteries, the upshot being that the Crystal is intended for indoor display and should almost be considered as a piece of furniture. Certainly, the very bright display makes it unsuitable for a bedroom unless you like to sleep to swirls of colour.
